AFRIFF LAUNCHES GLOBAL FILM AND CONTENT MARKET TO BOOST AFRICAN CINEMA
The Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) returns to Lagos, Nigeria, next week with an exciting new addition – the launch of the AFRIFF Film and Content Market (AFCM), a global platform for film, television, and digital content exchange.
Designed to connect creators, investors, and distributors from around the world, AFCM marks a major milestone in Africa’s creative economy.
In partnership with Nigeria’s Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, the inaugural edition will feature pitch sessions, international showcases, and dynamic networking opportunities.
Building on AFRIFF’s reputation as Africa’s leading film festival, the 2025 edition aims to create a structured marketplace where industry professionals can explore content licensing, co-production ventures, and distribution deals. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance the commercial potential of African cinema and increase its visibility on the global stage.
A standout partnership this year is between AFRIFF and MTN, Africa’s largest telecommunications company. The collaboration seeks to transform the continent’s film industry by opening new channels for content creators and amplifying indigenous storytelling. Leveraging MTN’s extensive network, African filmmakers will gain unprecedented access to global audiences and distribution opportunities.
AFRIFF 2025’s industry programme running from 2-8 November 2025 will also include sessions on film distribution, marketing, and content commissioning – equipping filmmakers with the skills and insights to thrive in an increasingly competitive global market.
In addition, the festival will spotlight international collaboration, with dedicated sessions to foster partnerships between Nigerian filmmakers and peers from countries such as France, Brazil, Germany, South Africa, and the United States. These exchanges are set to drive co-productions and expand the creative and cultural footprint of African cinema worldwide.
