FAME WEEK AFRICA: SA AND CANADA SIGN CO-PRODUCTION TREATY
Minister of Sport, Arts, and Culture Minister, Gayton McKenzie, and Chris Cooter, High Commissioner for Canada in South Africa, signed an amended Co-Production Treaty at FAME Week Africa in Cape Town on Tuesday to adapt the film partnership between the two countries to the evolving landscape of the industry.
The updated agreement aims to incorporate new media, animation, and television production into the existing framework, ensuring that South Africa remains competitive in the global film market.Â
Minister McKenzie expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting its significant contribution to the growth of the South African film industry.Â
“The Canadian Ambassador and I signed a historic co-production agreement today that will unlock many exciting opportunities in film, animation and television. This will drive major investment for our industry,” the Minister said on X.Â

This year FAME Week Africa is hosting representatives from 63 countries, 25 from Africa. The Canadian delegation includes 14 different companies. The conference runs until 7 September.
