WHAT IS THE PMA AND WHY IT MATTERS

The Personal Managers Association (PMA)

The Personal Managers Association (PMA) is a vital organisation in the South African film and television industry, representing the interests of personal managers and talent agents. Established in 1980, The PMA promotes ethical standards, best practices and plays a crucial role in shaping the industry’s landscape.

The PMA’s primary objective is to safeguard the interests of its members-represented talent, which include actors in local and international theatre, television and film, TV presenters, voice over artists, singers, dancers, social media influencers and event MCs. By fostering a supportive community, the association provides a platform for members to share knowledge, resources, and expertise. This collective approach enables the PMA to address industry challenges, advocate for policy changes, and facilitate growth and development.

Key focus areas for the PMA include:

  1. Ethical conduct: Promoting transparency, integrity, and fair business practices among members.
  2. Professional development: Offering training, workshops, and mentorship programs to enhance members’ skills and knowledge.
  3. Industry advocacy: Engaging with government, industry bodies, and stakeholders to influence policy and regulations.
  4. Talent development: Supporting and nurturing emerging talent, ensuring a sustainable future for the industry.

For South African film, television, theatre professionals, understanding the PMA’s role and objectives is essential.
